July 2010 Council Article

Council

I was talking recently to Companion Joe Brearley.  Companion Joe is a Past Grand Master and a Past Grand high Priest of Rhode Island.  He showed me some pictures of the burial monument of Thomas Smith Webb in Providence, R.I.  Brother Webb was always  a great mason to me my entire Masonic life, and I wondered how many York Rite Companions knew of the great accomplishments of this Brother in both the York Rite and the Blue Lodge.
Brother Webb did for the York Rite what Albert Pike did for the Scottish Rite.  Both of these brothers gathered from all the world a vast amount of ritual, degree, and other works, condensed these, and created the beautiful degree work we enjoy today.  Brother Webb claimed no original contribution to the existing works, but as he said, abbreviated and rearranged it to suit the custom that had grown up in America.
Brother Webb  was the abliest  Masonic ritualist of his day-the very Prince of Masonic workmen.  In 1797 he wrote the first Masonic
Monitor, the first work of its kind in our country, and set the standard for both the Blue Lodge and York Rite work we enjoy today.
We had a very good attendance at our last meeting being a stated summer meeting.  It was good to see some familiar faces.
     In Union and Friendship,

Wayne E. Parks, Illustrious Master

March 2010 Council Article

My Fellow Companions:
This year it has been my great honor to serve as Prior of Florida Priory #60, Knights of The York Cross of Honor.  During this year I have been asked many questions about our Order, especially about the multicolored cord and gold crown hanging around our necks.

Let me briefly explain this. The main governing body for the KYCH is called Convent General, and allows Priory's to be formed in each state. Some states have one, and some multiple Priorys. The duty of the Priory is to represent the Convent General, elect officers to govern their Priorys, and to initiale new members.

There are no other appendant bodies in Masonry which require such a high standard for membership.   The requirement is that you must be a Past Master of Lodge, Past High Priest of Chapter, Past Illustrious Master of Council, and a past Eminent Commander of Commandery.  After serving all four bodies, your name may be submitted for election into a Priory.

Hope this will help with some of the questions you have about the KYCH. If you should see a Companion wearing the Jewel of KYCH, shake his hand and pat him on the back. He has earned it.

Hope to see you at our meetings,

Wayne E. Parks
Illustrious Master

My Fellow Companions,

Congratulations to all the newly installed officers of the Orlando York Rite Bodies, and to the new Blue Lodge Officers in our area.

I know that everyone is gearing up for a big year in 2010. It just doesn't sound right. Seems like yesterday was the year 2000 and many people thought it would be the endo of time.

Installation time is always a big time for thank you's and I sure could mention a lot of them. The really important thank you's are to those Companions who have worked hard to keep our York Rite Bodies together and going strong. Thanks to the Master and members of Eola Lodge for allowing us to continue to meet in this beautiful facility.

We have a lot of work to do this year. The number one priority is the reestablishing of our degree work in the three bodies.

Companions, it is imperative that we do this as quickly as possible. I'll be addressing this in the near future.

Wishing everyone a happy and successful 2010.

Wayne Parks, Illustrious Master.
