YORK RITE HISTORY:

Symbolic Degrees of EA, FC, and MM as conferred in the USA are degrees of York Rite Freemasonry.  [The first three Blue Lodge degrees are only a preparation for higher degrees].  Royal Arch Masonry became popular as more Masons sought to complete their Masonic knowledge.  Conferral of the first Knight Templar was in 1769.  Little evidence of this Order was seen until 1796 when the first encampment (now commandery) was formed in Connecticut.  The General Grand Chapter of New England States was formed in 1796.   (The PLUMBLINE, Summer, 2009).

FLAGSHIP CHARITY--CMMRF:

Orlando York Rite Council No. 5 held a brief convocation on 14 May. Several companions had the pleasure to meet at Eola Lodge and communicate with Grand Chaplain Robert Moore (Tampa area). Before departing, Grand Chaplain Moore relayed a brief message from our Most Illustrious GM: Participation is key to success which includes fraternal pageantry, spiritual growth, and charity support. The flagship charity for the Council includes Cryptic Masons Medical Research Foundation, a research organization designed to treat circulatory problems.

Membership:

"York Rite - the best-kept secret in Masonry".

Don't keep York Rite a secret!! A One-Day Class will be held at Eola Lodge on Saturday, 19 sep 2009. Spread the word. Any Master Mason is elegible to petition for York Rite - but they won't come if you don't ask. You now have experience as a "Companion" and "Sir Knight" - think of other Blue Lodge Masons who would enjoy our activities.
Total cost to join Orlando York Rite is $180 for all three bodies, Chapter, Council and Commandery. For info, there are four different Masonic York Rite organizations in our 5th District. Orlando, Sanford, Eustis and Daytona Beach.

Degree Work:

The word is out - we have 9 candidates who took the 4 Chapter degrees at Orlando York Rite (Eola Lodge). They finished the Royal Arch Degree on Februrary 19th (let's hope they all continue with the 2 Council degrees and 3 Orders in Commandery by the end of March).

Declining Masonic Membership:

According to the Plumbline (Scottish Rite Research Society, Spring 2008), research documents the last year of growth for the Shrine, York Rite Royal Arch Masons and Knights Templars took place in 1926. The last year of membership growth for Master Masons was in 1928.

Let's hoppe we all can make a difference !!!

York Rite Convention:

Remember to fill out your registration form for the 2009 York Rite Convention - scheduled to convene 4 April 2009 at the Orlando Marriott (Lake Mary, FL). Registration cost: $30. Make your check payable to: Grand York Rite Convention Fund. New York Rite members will also be eligible to attend this convention.

Freemasonry - Ancient York Rite Grand Lodge

The symbolic degrees of Entered Apprentice, Fellowcraft, and Master Mason, as conferred in the United States, are degrees of the York Rite. York Masonry is the oldest and best known of all Masonic Rites. It takes its name from York, England, where the earliest known record of Masonry exists, dating from about A.D. 923. Masonry´s first written record is centered around York, the seat of the Ancient York Grand Lodge. In 1813, this Grand Lodge merged with another group called the Modern Grand Lodge, to form the United Grand Lodge of England. This is the basis upon which our present system of Symbolic Lodge Masonry is built.

You, as a Master Mason, have received the first three degrees of the York Rite. Having begun your Masonic work in the York Rite, it is natural that you should want to continue with it.  According to Masonic legend, every man raised to the sublime degree of a Master Mason received “substitute secrets”, as the “true secrets” were lost. It may prove a surprise to the average man, believing his work is completed, to be told that the secrets pertaining to the ceremony will not be given to him! This is unfortunate, but the veil is lifted in the degree of the Royal Arch, and in that degree only. Hence, no man actually becomes a Master Mason until he is exalted to that holy order.

Basics For Joining Orlando York Rite

YORK RITE DEGREES & ORDERS

by Sam Tish, E.H.P.

Much of the information about York Rite Freemasonry seems to be quietly discussed. Details about our York Rite bodies tend to be the "big secret" in masonry. Masonic brothers in Blue Lodge know York Rite exists, but little basic information reaches those who might be interested.
Total cost for candidates to join the three bodies (CHAPTER, COUNCIL, and COMMANDERY) is: $180.
Annual dues are less than $65. Any one or all of the degrees/orders may be taken as a "fast class–usually 2 days" or slow class stretched out over 2 or more months.
Payments may be made in three increments: CHAPTER = $85; COUNCIL = $40; COMMANDERY = $55.
